ISO 9001 stands for the ‘International Organization for Standardization’ and is an international non-government organization (est. in 1947) which mission is to have a universal standard of quality internationally. ISO is a worldwide federation with participation from more than 140 countries. Standards are documented from international agreements pertaining to the precise criteria which ISO companies use as regulations and guidelines, to ensure that their materials and products maintain a high quality and uniformity for consumers. For example the format of credit cards, phone cards, and bankcards etc. were derived from an ISO international standard, which defines such features as the optimal so these cards can be used world wide.
